Brian McFadden ready for the world
IF DELTA Goodrem is Australia’s sweetheart, then when it comes to her Irish fiance Brian McFadden, we as a nation should be the jealous ex-boyfriend.
So perhaps another title for her is in order, because if the charts are anything to go by - his single Just Say So debuted at No. 1 - we actually really like the guy.
He says people have responded well to his latest album, Wall of Soundz, but many are wondering where this new style has come from.
“People are loving the music, but I don’t think they’re making the connection and they’re thinking, ‘This doesn’t really sound like Brian McFadden’,” he said.
“My last album suited certain places. This is the first time I feel like I can take a record everywhere because it suits radio everywhere in the world at the moment.”
Late June sees McFadden embark on a first-stop-America world tour to release and promote his electro-pop offering.
As one-third of the judging panel on Australia’s Got Talent, alongside Dannii Minogue and Kyle Sandilands, McFadden says he has had some of the greatest experiences working on the show, being lucky enough to see some truly memorable performances. On the flipside, he admits that faced with the “crazies” up close, it is very different to having a laugh at them from the comfort of your livingroom.
“I don’t mind the people whose parents told them they’re good and they’re not good, but it’s the people who are just mental,” he said. “You think their parents should be saying, ‘You shouldn’t really be going outside - don’t worry about going on a TV show, you shouldn’t even be seen in public’.”
Much like Sandilands, but with a decidedly more wholesome reputation, McFadden speaks his mind unashamedly - a well-known Irish trait that is no doubt one of the reasons Australia has adopted him as one of its very own.
“Ireland will always be home, but Australia is my home now - and Australia’s been really, really good to me,” he said.
